The rare phone call between the two sides took place last Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving and six days after Russia launched a new intermediate-range ballistic missile at Ukraine, allegedly in response to our country's use of American and British weapons to strike Russia.

During the conversation, Gerasimov told Charles that the launch of the Oreshnik ballistic missile was planned long before the administration of US President Joe Biden agreed to allow Ukraine to strike military targets inside Russia with ATACMS missiles.

General Brown's spokesman, Captain Jerald Dorsey, told reporters that “at Gerasimov's request, General Brown agreed not to announce the call in advance.”

He added that the two men “discussed a range of global and regional security issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.”
