Turkey has contractual obligations to manufacture and deliver corvettes to Ukraine. Turkey is duly fulfilling its obligations and will be ready to provide as the Ukrainian side decides.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
“These corvettes are the property of Ukraine, and it is our side that will make the decision on the corvettes,” he said.
According to Bodnar, the first corvette, Ivan Mazepa, is currently undergoing port and sea trials and will be ready for commissioning sometime around the end of this year.
Another corvette, Ivan Vyhovskyi, was launched on August 1. This vessel is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026. The ship is currently being fitted out, the propulsion system, weapons and many other necessary things are being installed, and the crew for this ship has been selected, he said.
“Of course, two ships, even if they are in full combat readiness, will not be able to completely change the operational situation in the region, but Ukraine will need them to restore its fleet. That is, with the participation of a coalition of those countries that have already agreed to give Ukraine other ships. We will see when it is needed. Accordingly, the decision will be made by the government,” Bodnar said.-
