U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken canceled plans to visit Germany, where he was scheduled to join a meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine's defense on October 12. Before that, the trip was postponed by US President Joe Biden.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller at a briefing in Washington.

The American official noted that the day before, the White House announced that the head of state was postponing his upcoming trip to Germany and Angola and staying in the United States to monitor the preparation and response to Hurricane Milton and the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

“Secretary Blinken had planned to join the President in Germany and Angola, but given this postponement, he now expects to return home to Washington from Laos,” the State Department spokesperson said.

He also said that Blinken is traveling to Vientiane (the capital of Laos) today to represent the United States at the East Asia Summit and the UN-US ASEAN Summit.

“The secretary of state will further discuss geopolitical issues, including the current crisis in Burma, the importance of upholding international law in the South China Sea, peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and Russia's aggression against Ukraine,” Miller said.
