The United States and other Western countries want a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine. This means, in particular, that it should be based on the UN Charter.
This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at The Atlantic, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the press service of the U.S. Department of State.
"It is fair (peace - ed.) in the sense that it reflects the basic principles underlying the UN Charter - the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence of Ukraine," Blinken said.
Sustainable peace, he said, means that after the war is over, "there will be no conditions" that will allow this aggression to happen again in a year, two years, or five years.
The Secretary of State emphasized that Ukrainians themselves must make fundamental decisions about how they want to see their future.
