The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions against the Russian Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces and their head, Igor Kirillov. In particular, for the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the British government.
Russian troops admitted to using chloropicrin, a toxic substance first used in World War I. This violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention is a serious breach of international law.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that London will not stand idly by in the face of such violations and will continue to use sanctions against the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
According to him, Russia continues to use inhumane methods, and London will not allow it to avoid responsibility.
Defense Minister John Healey emphasized that the UK intends to punish violations of international law and support Ukraine as long as necessary.
The UK has also imposed sanctions on two Russian laboratories involved in the development of chemical weapons and promised to continue its military and financial support for Ukraine, including annual aid of £3 billion.
