Britain will not allow Ukraine to strike at Russia without US consent

Sep 17, 2024

The UK will not allow Ukraine to strike Russia with long-range weapons. To change this decision, the United States needs to agree.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Times.

The publication reminds that recently, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the United States and Britain to overcome their ‘fear’ and show ‘determination’ in this matter.

Moreover, it has recently become known that five former British defence ministers and former heads of government have called on current Prime Minister Keir Starmer to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russia with Storm Shadow missiles. They argued that any delay would only embolden Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

However, according to The Times, Britain will not act alone, as American guidance systems are considered crucial to ensure that the missiles hit their targets (we are talking about long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles).

At the same time, the British authorities believe that America is likely to give the green light at the UN General Assembly in New York. At the same time, there are still disagreements within the administration of US President Joe Biden.
