China today shared plans to hold joint military exercises with Russia called North-Joint 2024, which will take place in the skies and seas around the Sea of Japan and Sea of Okhotsk this month.

This was announced by the Chinese Ministry of Defence, RBC-Ukraine reports citing The Moscow Times.

The statement said that the naval and air forces of both countries will take part in the exercises.

‘These exercises are aimed at deepening the level of strategic cooperation between the Chinese and Russian forces and enhancing their ability to jointly counter security threats,’ the Chinese Ministry of Defence said.

It is noted that both China and Russia plan to send their flotillas to the Pacific Ocean for joint patrols. At the same time, Chinese troops want to take part in Russia's Ocean-2024 strategic exercises.

The Chinese Ministry of Defence has not yet disclosed the exact date of the exercise.

The publication recalled that in July this year, Russia and China also conducted joint exercises in the waters and airspace around Zhanjiang, a city in Guangdong province in southern China. These exercises took place against the backdrop of NATO leaders' statement that China was a decisive factor in Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
