The share of Russian gas in the EU's imports has fallen sharply during Russia's war against Ukraine, so the EU is ready to completely abandon supplies from Moscow.
This was stated by European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson.
Simson said that the share of Russian gas in EU imports had decreased from 45% in 2021 to 18% by June 2024, while imports from reliable partners such as Norway and the United States had increased.
“We are no longer at the mercy of Putin's pipelines, and we continue to support our Ukrainian partners as winter approaches,” she emphasized.
At the same time, the European Commissioner emphasized that European companies have the right to use Ukrainian gas infrastructure, as there are no sanctions and there is interest from the Ukrainian side.
