Sep 12, 2024

The Russian military opened fire on the vehicles of the humanitarian mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Three Ukrainians, who were ICRC staff members, were killed.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a statement by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.

‘Today, the occupier attacked the vehicles of the humanitarian mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Donetsk region,’ the president said.

At the same time, Lubinets noted that the shelling is already known, but the ICRC and the IFRC are silent.

‘No reaction, condemnation or expression of condolences! Thus, this silence only covers up the criminal policy of the Russian Federation! The ICRC must officially and publicly recognise Russia's violation of the Geneva Conventions!’ he stressed.

Zelenskyy also added that as of now, there are two wounded and three dead.

‘Everything is absolutely clear in this war: Russia brings evil, Ukraine protects life. And if someone wants to hear ‘both sides’, then in Russia this is perceived only as permission to kill further. The world must react firmly and on principle. Countries and international organisations cannot remain indifferent,’ he stressed.
