The US fears Russia's defeat in the war, Ukraine can allay fears

Sep 12, 2024

There are concerns in the United States about the consequences of a Russian defeat in a war against Ukraine. However, Ukraine's detailed plan for victory may dispel these concerns.

This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine article ‘Autumn of Presidents. Three Challenges for Ukraine and Zelensky amid the US Elections’.

The other day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he was going to show the ‘plan for Ukraine's victory’ to US President Joe Biden and hand it over to Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

The question of what Ukraine's victory in the war might look like arose sharply at the beginning of this year. At that time, the US Congress was debating the allocation of aid to Ukraine.

Uriel Epstein, executive director of the US non-profit organisation Renew Democracy Initiative, believes that Ukraine's victory plan could allay fears in the US.

‘The Biden administration has been quite calm about supporting Ukraine, but they seem to be allergic to the word ‘victory’ because a Ukrainian victory means a Russian defeat, and the US government is afraid of the consequences. Perhaps a detailed proposal from the Ukrainian side might ease their concerns a little bit, but it's not certain. The same goes for Harris as Biden's vice president,’ the expert explained.
