Belarus remains a source of risk for Europe. Lithuania will demand tougher sanctions against Minsk on a par with Russia.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda during a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He noted that joint Belarusian-Russian military exercises were being held in Belarus and that Russians had been attacking Ukraine from this territory. Nausėda also reminded that the regime of Alexander Lukashenko was sending illegal migrants to Lithuania to destabilise the situation.
The Lithuanian President added that Belarus' attempts had been neutralised, but this did not mean that Minsk would not try to repeat them.
‘But these operations have simply moved to the border with Poland, and neither Poland nor the EU can tolerate this. That is why we look at this state without illusions and understand that it is another source of risks for all of us,’ Nausėda said.
According to him, Lithuania is calling for tougher sanctions against Belarus on a par with Russia. The EU has recently adopted a new package of sanctions against Minsk, but Vilnius is asking for stricter restrictions.
