Putin increases the size of his army to 1.5 million troops

By his decree, Russian President Vladimir Putin has increased the number of personnel in the Russian Armed Forces to 2,389,130, of which 1,500,000 are military personnel.

I hereby resolve: 1. To establish the authorised strength of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation at 2,389,130, including 1,500,000 military personnel.

The Kremlin leader instructed the government to allocate the money from the budget to the Ministry of Defence necessary to implement the decree.

Thus, Putin has increased the army's staff by 180,000 people.

Previously, Putin increased the size of the Russian army in December 2023, when the number of servicemen was 1.32 million. Before Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, the number of servicemen in the Russian Armed Forces barely exceeded 1 million.
