Washington sees increased cooperation and stronger ties between Tehran and Moscow as a significant destabilizing factor. This applies both to certain regions and to the world as a whole.
This was stated by US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing his briefing in Washington.
The statement was made in response to journalists' questions about Iran's recent air strike on Israel and whether the State Department is concerned about the participation of Tehran's “friends” and allies, Russia and China, in this war, given “their cooperation on another front, in Ukraine.”
“Of course, we see the deepening ties between Iran and Russia as something that is incredibly destabilizing to the region,” the American official said.
He clarified that it is “incredibly destabilizing to the world,” and added that this applies not only to the Middle East, but “wherever Iran and Russia are active.”
