The new plan of the North Atlantic Alliance stipulates that in the event of a Russian attack, Estonia has the right to retaliate against the aggressor's territory.
This was stated by the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Estonian Defense Forces, Vahur Karus, RBC-Ukraine reports citing ERR.
According to the major general, up to a certain point, NATO's defense plan stipulated that the Estonian army had to confront the Russians on its own for about 10 days until the help of the Alliance allies arrived.
However, the new NATO plan, he said, is that in the event of an attack on Estonia, the country's army has the right to defeat Russian troops on their own territory. In particular, this means strikes on the locations of Russian troops that are going to attack Estonia.
“This is a huge change. This is the change that the war in Ukraine has brought to many NATO allies. We can no longer wait to be hit over the head with a sledgehammer, but we have to be the first to be able to do certain things,” Karus said.
