EU ambassadors agree to provide Ukraine with a €35 billion loan. It will be repaid from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Radio Liberty correspondent Rickard Jozwiak on Twitter and the press service of the EU Council.
“EU ambassadors have just agreed on a €35 billion aid package for Ukraine for 2025,” he wrote.
Józsiak also added that the ambassadors failed to agree on the extension of sanctions against the assets of the Central Bank of Russia for 36 months instead of six months. Hungary opposes this decision.
It is worth noting that the decision to extend sanctions against the Central Bank of Russia for 36 months is a condition for the allocation of a $50 billion loan to Ukraine, which the G7 members have pledged to provide. This condition was put forward by the United States.
In this way, Washington wants to make sure that the EU sanctions against Russian assets will remain in place until Russia pays reparations to Ukraine.
