The EU Council has approved a new framework for sanctions against Russia's destabilizing actions abroad. The restrictions will make it possible to prosecute individuals and organizations that undermine the security and sovereignty of the EU.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the EU Council.
The new measures are aimed at combating hybrid threats, including interference in electoral processes, sabotage of critical infrastructure, spreading disinformation and cyberattacks.
The list of threats also includes manipulation of migration flows and other destabilizing actions that have recently intensified in Europe.
These measures include asset freezes and a ban on cooperation with EU citizens and companies. In addition, individuals on the list will be banned from entering the EU.
The decision was made on the basis of a proposal by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and is a response to Russia's growing hybrid operations in Europe.
