Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said that Ukrainian counteroffensive operations are currently moving more slowly than previously predicted, but the Defense Forces are moving confidently and purposefully.
According to Yevropeiska Pravda, he said this while speaking at the National Press Club.
"This (counteroffensive - ed.) is happening more slowly than people predicted. This does not surprise me. They (Ukrainian troops - ed.) are moving confidently, purposefully, making their way through very difficult minefields," said Milley.
The American general called it part of the nature of war and emphasized that war on paper and real war are different things.
He added that the Ukrainian counteroffensive will be very long and very bloody.
"Ukrainians are fighting for their existence. They are fighting against a huge country with a population of 140 million and a large army that has a lot of military equipment," Milley emphasized, adding that the Americans are helping Ukraine in every way possible.
