Germany confirms postponement of Ramstein, but meeting still possible

Oct 10, 2024

The Ramstein meeting scheduled for October 12 will not take place. The meeting of the leaders of the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and Germany is also postponed.

This was stated by German government spokesman Steffen Gebestreit during a briefing, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Ukrinform.

The government spokesman recalled that US President Joe Biden canceled his visit to Germany because of the storm that is approaching the United States. Therefore, a number of events were canceled.

“So, there will be no meeting in Ramstein at the level of heads of state and government, and there will be no meeting between the British prime minister, the French president, and the German chancellor, including with the virtual participation of the American president,” Gebestreit said.

At the same time, he said, the parties will try to organize everything again in the future, but it is premature to talk about the timing.

The German government spokesperson added that Berlin had not received a “negative reaction” or disappointment from the Ukrainian authorities regarding the violation of the plans.

He also noted that the United States remains Ukraine's largest “donor” and Germany is the second, so “Ukraine can continue to rely on its partners.”

German Defense Ministry spokesman Michael Stempfle, in turn, said that Berlin hopes that a meeting in the Ramstein format, at least with the participation of the heads of defense ministries, will take place in October.
