It is noted that the IDF carried out a wave of air strikes on "important" targets in the Shaboura area in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The military reported that they had completed the strikes and did not provide further details.

At the same time, Reuters reported 22 dead and dozens wounded as a result of Israeli strikes.

The city of Rafah is located in the south of the Gaza Strip near the border with Egypt. Currently, 1.5 million people live there. Many people fled to the city as refugees because of Israel's military operation in the center and north of the region.

As a reminder, on October 7, 2023, militants of the radical Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip. During the attack, the terrorists massacred and abducted military and civilians, while simultaneously firing rockets at the country's largest cities. According to official data, in the first days of the attack, Hamas militants killed 1,200 civilians and soldiers and kidnapped about 250 people.

At the end of October, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a ground military operation in the Gaza Strip, which continues to this day. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the operation's goal was to completely destroy Hamas' operational and governmental capabilities and to free hostages.

Netanyahu recently announced the IDF's readiness to launch a ground invasion of Rafah.

The EU and a number of humanitarian organizations have warned of the catastrophic consequences of an operation in Rafah. US President Joe Biden asked Netanyahu to protect civilians in Rafah and to develop an evacuation plan.
