The Italian government is preparing a new package of weapons for Ukraine, including air defense systems.
This was reported by Reuters, citing an unnamed representative of the Italian government coalition.
The representative of the coalition said that Rome is ready to provide Ukraine with various air defense systems, including the Franco-Italian medium-range SAM SAMP/T and Italian Aspide, as well as portable missiles Stinger.
However, it remains unclear how many systems Italy will be able to offer and when such a shipment could be delivered, the official said.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto spoke by phone Monday with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and pledged to support Ukraine in fighting the Russian invasion for as long as necessary.
Italy approved the first arms shipment to Kyiv in late February under Mario Draghi's government of national unity.
