Netanyahu: Gaza will not be under Palestinian Authority control

Dec 7, 2023

The Palestinian Authority will not assume power in Gaza as long as Benjamin Netanyahu is the Prime Minister of Israel.

This is reported with reference to Netanyahu, as quoted by CNN.

"As long as I am Prime Minister — this will not happen. Whoever educates their children for terror, funds terror, and supports families of terrorists, could not control Gaza after we eradicate Hamas," Netanyahu said.

It is noted that the Prime Minister's comment came after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his readiness to take over power in Gaza and the West Bank.

Last month, US President Joe Biden said that the Palestinian Authority should govern the Gaza Strip and the West Bank after the war ends.

"As we seek peace, Gaza and the West Bank must be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a renewed Palestinian Authority, as we all work toward a two-state solution," Biden said.

The Israeli prime minister has repeatedly rejected the idea, as he believes that the Palestinian Authority in its current form is "not competent to take responsibility for Gaza".
