Norwegian government proposes to increase aid to Ukraine

Sep 22, 2024

The Norwegian government has proposed to increase aid to Ukraine by NOK 5 billion (about EUR 430 million) this year and provide at least NOK 15 billion (about EUR 1.3 billion) a year until 2030.

This was stated by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Panorama Nyheter.

According to him, the government proposed to increase the scope of the Nansen program to support Ukraine to 135 billion Norwegian kroner (11.5 billion euros).

They also want to extend the program for three years, from 2027 to 2030.

“We have proposed to introduce a lower limit for our support to Ukraine, where NOK 15 billion will form the basis of support annually, instead of a ceiling of NOK 75 billion for the entire program,” Støre explained.

He noted that this would allow for increased assistance to Ukraine if necessary, and that it would be possible to review the issue of additional allocations twice a year.

Støre added that it is impossible to predict what will happen in the near future, so it is important that the support program is flexible - if, for example, there is a need to focus on recovery, the funds will be directed to this area.
