Pentagon: $5.8bn remaining to help Ukraine will be used

Sep 20, 2024

The US Department of Defence is trying to get Congress to extend Joe Biden's presidential term to allocate all remaining funds for military support to Ukraine after the end of the fiscal year at the end of September.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a statement by Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson Sabrina Singh, quoted by Ukrinform.

‘We do plan to use the amount allocated within our authority (for Ukraine - ed.),’ she said.

According to Singh, there is currently $5.8 billion of unused funds within the presidential authority for Ukraine.

At the same time, she noted that the Pentagon cannot provide military assistance now, as it has nothing to restore its own combat readiness stocks. According to Singh, for a long time, while Congress was passing a large-scale aid package for Ukraine, the Pentagon could not replenish its stocks.
