Slovakia fears Ukraine's possible membership in NATO. This could allegedly lead to new conflicts.
This was stated by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Pravda.sk.
After a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiga, the Slovak foreign minister told reporters that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine “cannot be resolved militarily,” so Bratislava is in favor of finding a peaceful solution as soon as possible.
He also added that Slovakia supports Ukraine's membership in the EU, but disagrees with Kyiv on joining NATO.
“Membership in NATO will lead to new conflicts, but we respect Ukraine's right to choose where it goes,” Blanar emphasized.
In his turn, Sibiga expressed confidence that Ukraine's membership in NATO is in the interests of both Kyiv and Bratislava, as it will guarantee stability.
“Ukraine's membership in NATO will lead to peace,” the minister added.-
