Sep 20, 2024

The EU called on all states that have ratified the Rome Statute to fulfil their obligations. In particular, it refers to the arrest of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on the basis of a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to an EU statement cited by Ukrinform.

The statement was made during a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna.

The document says that the EU remains deeply concerned about the fate of all Ukrainian children and other civilians illegally displaced by Russia. ‘The European Union reiterates its call on Russia and Belarus to ensure their safe return to Ukraine without delay,’ the statement reads.

The EU demands that Russia immediately release all persons illegally deprived of their liberty, ‘including the three arbitrarily detained OSCE staff members’.

‘We recall the six arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court, including against President Putin for the war crime of unlawful deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children. All States Parties to the Rome Statute are obliged to execute arrest warrants issued by the ICC,’ the statement reads.
