The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has officially responded to Russia's intentions to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
The ministry released a statement on the afternoon of March 26, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Russia's intention to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus is another provocative step by the criminal Putin regime, which undermines the principles of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the nuclear disarmament architecture, and the international security system as a whole.
Ukraine appeals to the Belarusian society to prevent the realization of criminal intentions to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus in violation of its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which will further turn this country into a hostage of the Kremlin and will have catastrophic consequences for its future, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
"We appeal to the Group of Seven states and the European Union to warn the Belarusian authorities about the far-reaching consequences for Belarus if it agrees to accept tactical nuclear weapons from Russia on its territory," the ministry called.
Ukraine expects effective actions to counteract the Kremlin's nuclear blackmail from the United Kingdom, China, the United States, and France, including as permanent members of the UN Security Council, which have a special responsibility to prevent threats of aggression using nuclear weapons.
"We demand to immediately convene an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council for this purpose," the Foreign Ministry said.-
