Mar 27, 2023

Following Moscow's announcement that it had deployed tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, the US Department of Defense said on Saturday that there were no signs of Russia preparing to use nuclear weapons.

The Pentagon's statement was cited by Reuters.

"We have seen reports of Russia's announcement and will continue to monitor this situation," the US Department of Defense press service said in a written statement.

"We have seen no reason to adjust our own strategic nuclear posture and no indication that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons. We remain committed to the collective defense of the NATO alliance," the Pentagon added.

Earlier, Washington made it clear to Russia that any use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine would have consequences, even if they were low-powered tactical weapons.
