Poland has decided to strengthen the border with Belarus due to the movement of mercenaries of the Wagner PMC to the country.

This was stated by Polish Vice Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, according to the Polish edition Wprost.

According to him, the Wagner group in Belarus, which may number about 8,000 fighters, creates "at least a potentially new" situation.

"This is an element that is dangerous for Ukraine, it is potentially dangerous for Lithuania, and it can be dangerous for us. It could mean a new phase of hybrid warfare, much more complicated than the one we have faced so far. Therefore, decisions were made to strengthen our defense on the eastern border," Kaczynski said.

He noted that the decision to strengthen the border concerns both an increase in the forces that will be permanently present there and an increase in the number of various kinds of barriers and fortifications.

"The security policy is focused on the darkest scenarios. And guided by this principle, we were forced to make such decisions," the Polish Vice Prime Minister added.
