The US State Department has approved the sale of Sentinel airborne surveillance radar systems to Romania.
This is reported by Evropeiska Pravda, citing data from the Pentagon's Security Cooperation Agency.
The Romanian government has requested the purchase of up to four AN/MPQ-64 F1 Sentinel radar systems.
These systems are capable of detecting a wide range of airborne objects and will significantly enhance Romania's ability to deter and defend against potential threats.
The acquisition agreement will also include a variety of related equipment, as well as training, engineering and logistical support services, and technical documentation.
The total value is estimated at $110 million.
“The proposed sale will improve Romania's ability to meet current and future threats by providing a credible force capable of deterring adversaries and participating in NATO operations,” the statement said.
