Russian aggression towards Snake (Zmiinyi) Island

Russian occupation forces, which cannot control the northwestern part of the Black Sea by ship and boat, from time to time try to demonstrate their dominance in the air and direct guided missiles at Snake (Zmiinyi) Island.

This was stated by the speaker of the Defense Forces of the South Natalia Humenyuk during a briefing in the Media Center of Ukraine-Ukrinform.

"As for Snake Island, it is clear that in conditions when the enemy cannot control the northwestern part of the Black Sea by ship and boat, they are trying to pressurize by aviation. They try, from time to time, to demonstrate their dominance at least in the air. And there were cases when they conducted reconnaissance by tactical aircraft and attempts to send their guided missiles, which were not successful, as a rule, they lost their combat ability even above the sea area," Gumenyuk emphasized.

According to her, the very fact of attempts to terrorize this region is more evidence of attempts to disrupt the functioning of the navigation corridor.

"Because the recommended sea routes run just along Snake Island," Humenyuk explained.
