In the current geopolitical environment, NATO is returning to the primary task for which the alliance was created. It is about deterring threats from the East.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Finnish President Alexander Stubb during a press conference following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“I am convinced that we are now witnessing the formation of NATO 3.0. We are returning to the primary deterrence role that NATO was supposed to play as a powerful military alliance when the threat comes from the East, mainly from Russia. We have a common understanding within the alliance of the security challenges, and it is very important that we are now working in both directions - deterrence and defense,” Stubb said.
The Finnish President added that his country is currently actively involved in improving NATO's command structures, as well as
Together with the United States of America (USA) and northern partners, it will be part of NATO's Joint Command in Norfolk;
“With the power of our military, we will be a provider, not a consumer, of security, and we see that many allies are very eager to help us do that,” Stubb added.-
