Lausanne, Switzerland, will host the Ukrainian Mine Action Conference (UMAC2024) on 17-18 October.
This was announced by the Swiss Federal Council.
The UMAC2024 conference on mine action in Ukraine will be attended by high-ranking officials, representatives of international organisations, the private sector and the scientific community.
Switzerland will be represented by President of the Swiss Confederation Viola Amgerd, who will open the conference, and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
‘The event, which Switzerland is organising jointly with Ukraine, will focus on the global aspects of humanitarian demining, in particular the three main components: people, partners and progress,’ the statement said.
UMAC2024 aims to discuss the role of mine action and its technological innovations.
It is estimated that a quarter of Ukraine's territory is contaminated with mines and other unexploded ordnance.
