General Christopher Cavoli, the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces in Europe, has compiled a list of weapons that could help Ukraine defend itself against Russian occupiers. In particular, it includes long-range missiles.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to CNN.
According to the publication's sources, such a list was presented to Congress early last month. It was included in a secret report on the Biden administration's strategy for Ukraine.
CNN claims that the list included long-range JASSM missiles for F-16s, which can hit targets up to 370 kilometers away.
Cavoli also included the Link 16 communications system, a data exchange network used by the United States and NATO. It is supposed to provide uninterrupted communication between combat systems and is especially useful for command and control of air and missile defense.
The source noted that Ukraine has repeatedly requested the transfer of both JASSM and Link 16.
The US general's list did not specify why the US has not yet provided Ukraine with such assistance. But, as one of the sources told CNN, in the case of Link 16, the most likely reason is the fear that sensitive US technology could fall into Russian hands.
The source added that the JASSM missiles could be useless to Ukraine if it does not achieve “some kind of air superiority.”
