The Ambassador called the shelling of the prison colony in Olenivka and reports of barbaric treatment of Ukrainian prisoners by Russian military unacceptable.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Brigitte Brink wrote about it in Twitter.
“The attack on the detention facility in Olenivka is unconscionable, as are reports of barbaric treatment of Ukrainian POWs by Russia’s forces. We will continue to pursue accountability and give Ukraine what it needs to defend itself against Moscow’s horrific aggression”, the statement says.
Previously, commenting on the killing of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Olenivka, a Pentagon representative hinted that the Russians could not be trusted and were trying to mislead everyone by claiming that the Ukrainian side had committed the shelling. At the same time, he said that he had no final information about what exactly had happened in Olenivka.
As a reminder, on July 29, Russian propaganda reported the shelling of a colony in Olenivka, Donetsk region, reporting 53 deaths. The General Staff of Ukraine denied Russia’s accusations that the strike was carried out by the AFU.
The Ukrainian intelligence service believes that the killing of Ukrainian prisoners in Olenivka was organized by mercenaries of the Wagner Group on the personal order of Putin’s chef, Yevgeniy Prigozhin, without coordinating it with the Russian Defense Ministry leadership.
