The United States began an expanded training program for Ukrainian soldiers in Germany.
This was said in a statement by the head of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, released by the Associated Press.
"The U.S. military’s new, expanded combat training of Ukrainian forces began in Germany on Sunday, with a goal of getting a battalion of about 500 troops back on the battlefield to fight the Russians in the next five to eight weeks," the general said.
Milley, who intends to visit the training site at the U.S. military base in Bavaria on January 16, noted that participants of the program arrived from Ukraine several days ago.
He said the comprehensive training involves training in the use of weapons provided to Kyiv by Western countries, particularly artillery systems, tanks and other equipment.
"The so-called combined arms training is aimed at honing the skills of the Ukrainian forces so they will be better prepared to launch an offensive or counter any surge in Russian attacks," the publication notes.-
Milley stressed that, according to the task, the Ukrainian military must be trained before the "spring rains”. He added that similar exercises had been conducted before the Russian invasion on February 24.
