Ukraine calls on the UN to respond to Russian terror in the Black Sea

Aug 14, 2023

The actions of the Russian Federation to stop a civilian vessel in the Black Sea are a blatant disregard for the rights of Black Sea states to free navigation and the rights of foreign vessels to peaceful passage through the territorial sea of coastal countries.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to a statement by the Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov.

Kubrakov said that Ukraine called on the UN and partners to respond firmly to Russia's actions and make every effort to stop terror in the Black Sea and take measures against the Russian Federation as a member state of the International Maritime Organization.

"In order to avoid provocations, we recommend that captains of ships sailing to/from Ukrainian seaports sail as close as possible to the coast of the northwestern part of the Black Sea through the territorial waters of Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria," the minister added.
