Oleksiy Shcherbyna, a representative of Teplocomunenergo, told Suspilne that the cause of the fire is preliminarily believed to be a short circuit. He noted that the damaged equipment was not critical, but rescuers were called to extinguish the fire.

The burning area was approximately three by three meters and was limited to the equipment itself. It is worth noting that this current transformer was already damaged in 2022. Shcherbyna also suggested that the fire could have been caused by a power surge.

The SES rescuers responded promptly to the call. According to Iryna Korin, a spokesperson for the agency in the Chernihiv region, the fire was extinguished at 20:55, less than half an hour after the call was received.

Currently, Chernihiv CHPP has temporarily suspended operations. The plant's staff is putting the equipment back into operation. According to experts, the plant will be able to resume operations in about two hours after the incident.
