The Council of the EU introduced new sanctions against Belarus

The Council of the European Union adopted new sanctions against the economy of Belarus for its participation in Russia's war against Ukraine, the introduced restrictions are aimed at trade, services, and transport.

In particular, the Council of the EU extended the ban on the export of dual-purpose goods and technologies and also introduced additional restrictions on the export of goods that can contribute to the growth of the industrial potential of Belarus.

"Further restrictions are imposed on the export to Belarus of maritime shipping goods and technologies, as well as luxury items," the press release states.

In addition, it will be prohibited to directly or indirectly import, purchase, or transfer from Belarus gold and diamonds, as well as helium, coal, and mineral products, including crude oil. A ban on the export of goods and technologies that can be used in oil refining and natural gas liquefaction is introduced.

At the same time, the Council of the EU prohibited the provision of certain services to Belarus, its government, state bodies, corporations, as well as any natural or legal person acting on their behalf or at their direction. This will cover accounting, auditing, architectural, engineering, and advertising services, IT advisory services, legal advice, market research and opinion polls, product testing and technical inspection services.

In addition, the decision of the Council of the EU expands the ban on the transportation of goods by motor vehicles on the territory of the EU by trailers and semi-trailers registered in Belarus, including during transportation by trucks that were registered outside the Republic of Belarus.

In order to minimize the risk of evasion of sanctions, the EU prohibits the transit through the territory of Belarus of goods and technologies for dual purposes, as well as goods that can contribute to the military and technological strengthening of Belarus or the development of its defense and security sector. This list includes goods and technologies used in the aviation or space industry, as well as weapons.
