Pentagon refused to say how many Abrams tanks Ukraine will receive

Sep 29, 2023

The US Department of Defense has refrained from naming the exact number of Abrams tanks that Ukraine will receive.

This was reported by Ukrinform.

Deputy Defense Department spokesperson Sabrina Singh noted that Ukraine will announce the number of tanks provided if necessary.

"I'm not going to go into specific numbers or any additional details about how many tanks and when they will arrive," she said.

Singh also emphasized that Ukraine has already received the first batch of tanks.

As a reminder, in January, US President Joe Biden said that the US would transfer its Abrams tanks to Ukraine by the end of this year. Later it became known that Ukraine would receive M1A1 tanks to speed up their delivery.

In July, it became known that the Ukrainian Armed Forces began training on American tanks at a base in Germany.

And on September 25, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the tanks had already arrived, and preparations were underway to reinforce brigades with them.

The Washington Post reported that Ukraine is to receive 31 Abrams tanks, but there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
