Biden requests $24 billion for Ukraine from Congress - media

Nov 27, 2024

The current US President, Joe Biden, has appealed to Congress to allocate an additional $24 billion to Ukraine. In particular, to strengthen military support.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the New York Post and Politico.Pro.

According to a request received by the second aforementioned publication, the White House Office of Management and Budget suggested that Congress could include this assistance in a package of decisions to avoid the risk of ending support when the presidential administration changes.

Several lawmakers reviewed the proposal on Monday. It stipulates that out of the aforementioned $24 billion, $8 billion would go to the initiative to provide security assistance to Ukraine, in particular, to finance contracts of American companies to supply weapons to our country. The other 16 billion is to be used to replenish the US arms stockpile.

However, some Republicans have already expressed outrage over the announcement of the request. For example, Senator Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah.

“Joe Biden just gave away $4.7 billion of taxpayer dollars by unilaterally 'forgiving' loans to Ukraine. Congress should not give him a free gift to further sabotage President Trump's peace talks on his way out the door. Any of Biden's demands for funding should be rejected,” he wrote on social media site X.
