Nov 26, 2024

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has recommended that the governments of NATO member states provide Ukraine with medium-range missiles for deterrence and self-defense.

This was stated by MP from the Servant of the People faction and head of Ukraine's permanent delegation to the NATO PA, Yehor Chernev, RBC-Ukraine reports citing his Facebook post.

According to him, it is about ballistic missiles with a range of 1000-5500 kilometers, in particular, Tomahawk missiles, which are capable of striking at the enemy's strategic depth.

“The Ukrainian delegation managed to persuade our Western colleagues to support my proposal and include this item in the resolution of the next session of the Assembly,” he said.

According to the MP, the adopted resolution is the first step that creates a legal basis for further decisions of NATO governments to transfer the relevant weapons to Ukraine.

Chernev also reminded that at the previous session, on the initiative of the Ukrainian delegation, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly called for allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory, raising the issue to the political level.

“We hope for a positive decision this time as well,” the MP concluded.
