Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said that no one knows whether US President-elect Donald Trump will stop helping Ukraine, but even if he does, he will not do so suddenly.
Lipavsky said this in London at a press conference after a meeting with his British counterpart David Lammy, Yevropeiska Pravda reports citing Novinky.
Lipavsky believes that under any circumstances, Trump will demand that Europe contribute more to its own security.
“We know that (Donald Trump) will demand that Europe take care of its own security. We do not know how American assistance to Ukraine will or will not continue. It's not going to be like Donald Trump can flip a switch and the next day Ukraine will get nothing at all,” the Czech foreign minister said.
Nevertheless, the Czech diplomat remains positive, even if the statements of the Republicans and Trump regarding Ukraine are vague.
“I personally remain optimistic. You always need to prepare for all scenarios, so I say that Europe should invest more in defense. At the same time, when I look at what Donald Trump is saying about China, about Iran, about security in the Middle East, how he is talking about North Korea, it would be surprising to me if Russia was not already included in this puzzle,” the minister added.-
Lipavsky also said that if Marco Rubio becomes the head of American diplomacy, it will be positive for Europe.
