Naftogaz of Ukraine received the last tranche of payment for gas transit from Gazprom in December under the contract signed in 2019. The chances of continuing relations between Ukraine and Russia are close to zero.
This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine article “Ukraine will not pump gas from Russia. Is Europe ready and what is the risk for Moldova?”
According to RBC-Ukraine, the money was transferred to the company at the end of last week. The amount of the payment has not yet been specified, but according to the publication's calculations, Gazprom had to pay about $70 million for December transit.
In fact, this is the last direct payment from the Russian company Naftogaz for transit services. The payment for oil transit through Ukraine via the Druzhba pipeline was taken over by the buyer country, Hungary, in 2022, the article notes.
