The European Union is considering imposing sanctions on China because the country has sent weapons to Russia for the first time to be used against Ukraine. The EU has “convincing” evidence of the supply.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
According to the newspaper's sources, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell informed the EU countries about the relevant intelligence data and called for decisive action.
Borrell noted that the evidence was “overwhelming” and demonstrated “the provision of lethal support” to to Russia.
“Now we have to look at the whole toolkit, including bans on doing business with Chinese companies, asset freezes and travel bans. But you also have to talk directly to China and let them know: “You've always said you want to be neutral. You are not neutral. China is not seeking peace either. You are feeding the beast,” he said.
The sources of the publication did not want to go into details about the intelligence findings. However, a senior diplomat referred to “very serious” reports by the Reuters news agency.
At the end of September, the agency exclusively reported that a subsidiary of the Russian state defense company Almaz-Antey called Kupol had developed and tested a new long-range combat drone in China and wanted to set up mass production there to use these drones in the war against Ukraine. This was done with the involvement of Chinese experts.
