This year, the European Union has had a hard time making progress toward a just settlement of the war against Ukraine. The EU is facing numerous crises and challenges.
According to RBC-Ukraine, this was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
Borrell reminded that this year the EU has allocated 122 billion euros of aid to Ukraine. Of this amount, 45 billion euros is military support. In addition, the EU has authorized the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to guarantee future assistance to Ukraine.
“But despite all this, we have not been able to provide Ukraine with sufficient resources to defend itself against the constant air attacks on its civilian and energy infrastructure. The winter will be very harsh for Ukrainians, with massive power outages,” he said.
In his opinion, the European Union has not provided Ukraine with enough ammunition to prevent the advance of the Russian army. He also believes that the participation of North Korean soldiers in the war against Ukraine is a “disturbing step” towards the internationalization of the war.
In his statement, Borrell calls Russia's war against Ukraine an “existential threat” to the European Union. He believes that Russia's victory would mean the continuation of its “imperial policy” against Georgia and Moldova.
