The majority of Germans continue to support Western sanctions against Moscow imposed because of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
This is evidenced by the results of a recent poll commissioned by the Institute for German Economics, Der Spiegel reported on Friday.
According to the poll, 71% of Germans support punitive measures against Russia.
At the same time, 72% of respondents believe that sanctions de facto harm the German economy more than the Russian one. Nevertheless, 84% of respondents say that sanctions are fulfilling their function.
The survey showed clear regional differences. In particular, the approval rating of sanctions was 73% in West Germany, while in East Germany it was 56%.
The majority of supporters of sanctions are among voters of the Green Party (91%), the SPD (85%), the CDU/CSU (80%), and the FDP (74%).
The largest number of sanctions opponents are among supporters of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) (66%) and the left (45%).
