A massive explosion at a military base in Iraq

A strong explosion occurred near Baghdad at a military base used by the Iraqi National Mobilization Forces.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Reuters.

It is noted that the explosion was quite powerful, and the incident occurred late on Friday.

Reuters, citing army sources, writes that the military base where the explosion occurred is "used by the Iraqi National Mobilization Forces (PMF)."

"Two security sources said the explosion was the result of an unidentified airstrike that occurred around midnight on Friday. The two PMF sources said the strikes did not result in casualties but caused material damage," Reuters reports.

In addition, PMF representatives told the agency that the strikes were aimed at the PMF headquarters at the Kalso military base near the city of Iskandariya, about 50 km south of Baghdad.

Instead, AFP quoted a source in the Iraqi Interior Ministry as saying that the explosion killed one person and injured eight.

"One of them was killed during a 'bombing' of an Iraqi military base used by pro-Iranian militias," the Times of Israel reports.
