This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kyrylo Budanov, in an interview with the Washington Post.

According to him, the Russians will try to capture Donbas, an important region in the east of the country that Russia has long claimed but does not control, in the summer.

The head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine also noted that Russian troops will continue to focus on the November elections in the United States and their consequences.

"Before the inauguration of your president, they will try to get as much territory as possible in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Budanov emphasized.

He also suggested that perhaps the Russians hope that if Donald Trump wins the US presidential election, they will be able to “ratify” their successes in eastern Ukraine.
