Biden and Trump to hold their first televised debate on June 27

Future US presidential candidates Joe Biden, the current head of the White House, and former President Donald Trump will hold a televised debate on CNN on June 27.

According to Ukrinform's own correspondent, the debate will begin on Thursday at 21:00 (Friday, 4:00 Kyiv time) and last 90 minutes.

For the first time in the history of the election, the televised debate will take place before the national party conventions, i.e., before the official nomination of candidates.

At Trump's request, the opponents will not have any recordings, only blank sheets of paper and pens. At Biden's request, the duel will take place without an audience that could cheer their leaders with shouts and applause - only two TV hosts will be present in the studio. In addition, the microphones will be turned on only when the politicians are answering their questions, so that they do not interrupt each other and do not insert comments, as Trump likes to do.

According to The Hill, Biden has been staying at the Camp David country residence for a week, where he and a group of advisers is preparing for the debate.

He is assisted by Chief of Staff Jeffrey Zients, Senior Assistant Anita Dunn, Chief Campaign Consultant Mike Donilon, former Chief of Staff Ron Kline, and Biden's personal lawyer Bob Bauer, who plays the role of Trump in the staged debate.

Biden's team emphasizes topics that it considers favorable for the president, such as infrastructure investment, climate issues, international policy, and measures to combat migration at the border.

Experts emphasize that Trump's main goal is to show that 81-year-old Biden has lost his memory and mental acuity and is unable to lead the country for another four years (he will turn 82 in November).

Biden, in turn, must prove that he is fit for the role.

Although the 78-year-old Trump is only a few years younger than Biden, his allies argue that he is more energetic and skilled than the current president. They believe that Trump will try to attack Biden on various issues, and Biden will be on the defensive.
