"Criminals must be punished": President of the European Commission

Mar 31, 2023

On the anniversary of the liberation of Bucha, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reminded of the need to punish those responsible for war crimes committed there during the occupation.

She published the statement on her Twitter account.

Ursula von der Leyen noted that what happened in Bucha was not an isolated incident.

"These cold-blooded executions were part of a larger plan - the Kremlin's plan to exterminate Ukrainians. Their national identity, their self-awareness," she emphasized.

The President of the European Commission added that Russia's war against Ukraine is not just a war against Ukraine, but also a war against respect for human rights and women's rights.

"Russia must be held accountable for these heinous crimes. And Putin must be held accountable," Ursula von der Leyen emphasized.
